Winter weather has surely arrived and there is nothing better than staying warm and cozy indoors. Friends and family are always welcome, but there can sometimes be other unwanted guests that you’ll find trying to join in. Mice and rat infestations are often times more popular when the outdoors are harsh and cold. Although we can understand their desire to come inside, we also know the health risks and property damage that can result from lack of rodent control in your home.
While we strongly suggest that you contact A & M Pest for any serious pest and rodent control needs, we also always like to provide helpful tips and tricks for those times when you suspect just a mouse or two running around. Food traps and bait are one obvious example, but why not hone in on a mouse’s other senses, such as smell and hearing, as well?
For Smell: did you know that mice hate minty scents? Try hiding these in small spaces and areas that you suspect there may be critters. Simply soaking a cotton ball or washcloth in a peppermint oil or spray can have a mouse scurrying away as quickly as possible.
For Sound: as with many other animals, certain noises are dreaded and to be avoided as much as possible. There are actually several simple and affordable ultrasonic mouse repellars that can be bought which will emit sounds that mice truly despise. The moment a mouse is in hearing distance from this, it is likely that it will want to escape immediately and does not intend to return.
While these are not always the only tactics needed to eliminate these fury pests, they are certainly a great place to start. Utilizing their weaknesses can remove any current residents in your walls, basement or floors and prevent any new ones in the future.
