While April Showers bring May flowers, Spring rain marks the start of termite swarming season. Termite Swarming season begins when the weather starts to get warmer- the purpose is to start new colonies. Termite Swarming is a natural part of the reproductive process for termite colonies. Swarmers will fly up from the colonies into the light then pair up with a mate. Once the female and male swarmers have paired off their wings will break off and they will seek a new home to begin a new colony.
It is important to know that only a small percentage of swarmers successfully start a new colony, but identifying the problem before it starts is key. Being able to pinpoint the presence of these pests could save you from a termite infestation if one is not already present. While Termite swarmers are a headache to deal with, the occurrence of having swarmers present is what you should be weary of. The wingless termites behind the scenes, below the surface are the ones that cause damage, and can ruin the structure of your home. If there is termite swarming, there is a colony, and in these colonies live termites making themselves comfy eating away at your home.
Evidence of swarming in your home can be characterized as thin translucent wings and dead insects in the area of a swarm. If you happen to find dead insects and wings nearby in areas of your home it is important to schedule an inspection for prevention of a termite infestation
If you are not sure if you have termite swarmers in your home or would like more information, contact A&M for a home inspection.
